General English (ELICOS)

The General English course starts from the Elementary level which is like a Beginner level. Students are not required to have a specific level of English to enter this course. Students can enrol and will be tested on their first day at campus. As the General English course has 5 levels, the student will be placed into their appropriate level for optimum learning.

ELICOS – General English course will be delivered face-to-face on campus for 20 hours per week. Classes will be scheduled for 4 hours over 5 days per week.

What's included?

Student Support
ACP staff help with studying, assessments, accommodations, language, and counseling. Students can get extra support from a student officer who may recommend external services. International students receive free support but might need to pay for outside services.

Our General English course blends structured lessons with real-life practice, covering grammar, vocabulary, and language skills. Interactive classes and continuous feedback ensure students actively use and improve their English. This approach builds confidence for academic, professional, and personal success.
Comprehensive Proficiency Levels
The course features five levels—Elementary, Pre-Intermediate, Intermediate, Upper Intermediate, and Advanced—aligned with the CEFR. Each level builds key language skills to ensure students meet recognized proficiency benchmarks.

Program Details:

The program aligns with the CEFR levels, ensuring students meet proficiency standards at each level.
Elementary (CEFR Level A1)
Can understand and use basic everyday expressions and phrases to meet specific needs. Can introduce oneself, ask and answer questions about personal details, and interact simply with help.
Pre-Intermediate (CEFR Level A2)
Can understand and use basic sentences and expressions related to everyday topics like personal information, shopping, and work. Can communicate simply and directly about familiar tasks and describe basic details about themselves, their surroundings, and urgent needs.
Intermediate (CEFR Level B1)
Can understand and discuss familiar topics encountered in daily life and work. Can handle most situations while traveling in a foreign language area. Can write simple texts on personal interests and describe experiences, dreams, hopes, and reasons for opinions and plans.
Upper Intermediate (CEFR Level B2)
Can comprehend complex texts on concrete and abstract topics, including technical discussions in their field. Can engage fluently and spontaneously with native speakers without difficulty. Can create detailed texts on various subjects and discuss different viewpoints on current issues, outlining pros and cons.
Advanced (CEFR Level C1)
Can comprehend complex texts and infer implied meanings. Can communicate fluently and confidently, using language flexibly for various contexts. Can create detailed, well-organized texts on intricate topics with clear structure and cohesive elements.
